!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! and ever since I’ve been lusting getting a big van of my own and turning it into a Motovan/Weekend Camper
My wife if fully onboard the idea but I just can’t picture myself driving something with shitty gas mileage as my daily driver. A Mercedes Sprinter with the 2.1L 4cyl would be ideal but I’d be looking at almost $45K to get what I want since in Canada we don’t get the Worker model you guys get for $32K. I’d be driving this daily to work and back, 40 miles a day, so fuel economy is definitely a concern.
I’d likely be looking at a Ford Transit medium roof LWB 3.7L V6 just like this one. I know what you’re thinking “just get the 3.2L Powerstroke if you are worried about fuel economy” but in Canada that is a $5,000 option and pushes the price right into the Sprinter territory. My wife and I are ready to spend in the low $30's but not quite ready to spend in the mid $40's.
So I guess it’s either decent fuel economy or decent price. Doesn’t look like I can get both.
I’ve looked for used vans and surprisingly they are just as much if not more expensive than a brand new one.

Why would you use an RV as your daily driver?

Why not? Makes no sense owning two vehicles if one will only be used to drive to work and back. We have another car for regular weekend duties.

Because weekend car + RV + €1500 beater for commuting is a much better idea.

I’d get a Promaster City if I went that route. But these would be a little on the small side for 3 people.

The truck is definitely NOT a daily. It gets used maybe once every 2-3 months. I don’t think I even do 500 miles a year with the truck. But the truck is paid for and cost me absolutely nothing except the registration $85/year plus whatever gas I use.

I was alllllll ready to buy a Van. I was so excited. Then I learned they no longer make 4WD vans for anything resembling reasonable amounts of money. I bought a Tacoma.
The shell is coming next week which covers camping/skiing and if I really need to move motorcycles around a lot I’ll buy a trailer.

Yeah, looked at Sprinters said Hell No to 50k. I just finally accepted that auto makers want you to buy trucks. So I bought a truck. Honestly, I am very very happy with it. It just should have been 6 grand less, get 5 more MPG, and BEEN A GODDAM VAN LIKE I WANTED. HRRRRRRRR ANGRY

It’s funny! Almost everything I look at seems to be $5K more than I think it’s worth. Either I have piss poor financial skills and don’t understand the value of a dollar OR shit is more expensive than it’s worth.
And yes in 2016 a lot more vehicles should get atleast 5 more mpg than they currently do. Stuff now only has marginally better fuel economy than cars and trucks from 20 years ago.
